Goodwin Request for Proposal

CLINICAL AND TRANSLATIONAL CANCER RESEARCH

A generous philanthropic gift ($750,000 per year for seven years) is making it possible for the Cancer Center to increase its support for clinical cancer research as well as translational and correlational research.  The aim is to support early-phase therapeutic cancer clinical trials or research that directly leads to or analyzes the results of such clinical trials.

The funds could be used for support staff, supplies, patient costs, and faculty salaries (for released time, with documentation that support will result in extra free time).Equipment requests will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.

Please provide a 1-2 page concept letter outlining your proposal, a preliminary budget, and a curriculum vitae (2-page NIH biosketch format is acceptable).  Clinical and basic scientists will review the proposals with expertise in the area of the research, to determine funding or further consideration.

Proposals should be in the Cancer Center office (Katherine Tinkey's office 6131C) by Friday December 5th.

Last year we funded five trials including:

  • Theresa Guise: Effects of Aromatase Inhibition on Estrogen Targets.
  • David Schiff: Phase II trial of pegylated interferon-a for meningiomas-  year two of this trial.
  • David Jones: Combined inhibition of histone deacetylase and   proteasome activity in non-small cell lung cancer: A molecular-based treatment strategy.
  • Leslie Blackhall:  Pilot Study Evaluating the Safety and Efficacy of  Modafinil in Improving Mood, Cognitive Ability, Functional Status, and Quality of Life of Cancer Patients.
  • John Densmore, Jennifer Morgan and Michael Williams: A Phase I/II Trial of Docetaxel, Capecitabine, and Celecoxib for Patients with Advanced Pancreatic Cancer.

In addition, we were also able to provide limited support for projects that were not therapeutic clinical trials but that could result in a trial in the near future.
