Our goal in cancer research is to understand at the most fundamental levels how cancer arises, grows, and spreads, and to utilize this knowledge to develop innovative ways to detect, diagnose, treat, and prevent cancer.
The Cancer Research center includes almost 200 investigators from 13 departments within the School of Medicine and College of Arts and Sciences. We are an NCI designated cancer center with over 75 million dollars in funded research. We already are recognized as a premiere institution in basic cancer research, and we have contributed substantially to the understanding of cancer cell and molecular biology. We have a superb Clinical Trials Office and Protocol Review System that support clinical research and, importantly, assure that it is properly done.
The Cancer Research program is organized around 7 research programs, and 12 outstanding shared research cores that support our investigators. These are described in detail in the pages that follow.
