Kids and Cancer

Whether your child has cancer or you do and need advice on teaching your child about your diagnosis, UVa can help.

This is an incredibly important time in your life to take good care of yourself and for your family to receive care as well. We have learned a great deal about illness and families through the years. Most of all, we have learned that presenting information to children in a manageable way is crucial. Just as important is hearing from them, their understanding of what is happening, their fears, and their desires on how to function in all of the changes taking place.

We hope that our website will be helpful in finding resources that can help you in your unique family situation. In addition, we have books, videos and other resources available at our clinic and through the UVa Health Resource Center. As with everything you are facing, the UVa Cancer Center would like to be as helpful as possible. If you would like to talk to a counselor or would like to offer us some resources that have been helpful for you, please, contact us.

The Cancer Center is a part of the UVa Children's Medical Center network, where where dedicated and family orientated doctors and staff treat children and young adults with cancer and blood diseases.
