FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered

FORCE is an online forum and resource site for women who are at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer. It provides support for women at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer, provides support for families with increased risk of these cancers, and helps women find resources to determine if they are at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer.

The Healing Way: A Journal for Cancer Survivors

Contains "60 well-researched writing exercises to help cancer patients and survivors write therapeutically about their cancer experience. " This book is written by a writing teacher who watched her father and a close friend suffer with cancer.

Bereavement Hospitality Services

A family-run business, BHS arranges travel and housing arrangements at lower prices when you need to travel due to the loss of a loved one. Includes airline, housing and ground travel arrangements. Please note, these services are available only if you anticipate the loss of a loved one at least 60 days or more from the time you contact them. Created by a palliative care physician, this site focuses on healing ways of talking with those facing the end of their life, a set of "tasks" for those facing death in order to set their affairs in order and prepare, and the "Missoula Demonstration Project." This project is an attempt to understand how we prepare for death and how we grieve, and how services can assist this process. Also books and links to helpful resources.

Growth House, Inc.

Provides a variety of resources for hospice, home, palliative care and pain management. Offers a comprehensive guide to cancer and AIDS; an online bookstore; a search engine that focuses on end-of-life topics; as well as links and resources for grief and bereavement, coping with the loss of a child, and how to support a grieving child. Growth House is also the host for the Inter-Institutional Collaborating Network for End-of-Life Care, a network of hospice organizations.

Stress Reduction and Relaxation Program

Stress. We all suffer from it. Here's a program designed to help us develop skills to rediscover mindfulness of the moment, and release the stress that life inevitably generates. Modeled after the program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts, this can benefit cancer survivors, friends and family, and any folks who suffer from stress of any kind, regardless of the cause.

A non-profit organization that seeks to provide cancer related information services. A good website, well-organized, it offers a large variety of mailing lists, online support services, publications, a list of clinical trial information, all organized by disease site.

BodyTalk

A library located within University of Virginia Hospital that offers unique and individualized information services to patient and family members. Delivery service to inpatient or outpatient clinic areas, books, brochures, videos, all custom tailored to your information needs.

CancerGuide

CancerGuide is a cancer resource maintained by Steve Dunn, a cancer patient/survivor. It is a collection of cancer resources organized to approximate a cancer patient's decision-making process in finding out about their illness.

National Cancer Institute

CancerNet is the National Cancer Institutes' online information center for the latest cancer information. All information located on CancerNet is reviewed by oncology experts and is based on the results of current research, making it a good source for accurate and dependable information on cancer. CancerNet is also the home of the PDQ databases of site-specific cancer facts.

Cancer Supportive Care

A comprehensive listing of cancer suppport programs, cancer facts, general and topic-specific information based on the book, "Cancer Supportive Care," by Ernest H. Rosenbaum, MD & Isadora R. Rosenbaum, MA, Somerville House Publishing, Toronto, 1998.
