How to Maintain and Improve Your Weight

1. Get 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day.

Be physically active most, if not all, days of the week. Some ideas for activity include:

  • brisk walking
  • mowing the lawn
  • gardening
  • swimming

2. Eat less fat and sugar.

  • Eat whole grain foods and plenty of vegetables. 
  • Limit cookies, cakes and sweets, and keep the portions small. 
  • Say no to seconds of foods high in fat. 
  • Choose snacks wisely

3. Don't Lose Weight too fast.

If you wish to lose weight, be patient.  Losing ½-2 pounds per week is a safe rate.  Don't try to exceed this with crash diets.

4. Be conscious of where excessive weight is going.

Excessive body fat in the abdomen is a greater health risk than fat in the hips and thighs.
