WORKSHOPS ANNOUNCED:
"Poison Smarts for Seniors!" Train the Trainer
Did you know?
-
Each year nearly 80,000 senior citizens in the U.S. are poisoned.
-
The most common source of senior poisoning is medicines: prescription and over-the-counter.
-
Though half of all calls to poison centers are about children under age 6, adults are more likely than children to suffer a serious or fatal injury from a poison exposure.
The Public Education Specialists at the Blue Ridge Poison Center will be offering a one-day course for adults who work or volunteer with senior citizens in their community. Participants will receive training and all the materials needed to teach seniors about poison safety and prevention. Workshops will be held in Pulaski, Lynchburg, and Martinsville in the Spring of 2008, and are FREE thanks to a grant from the Div. of Injury Prevention at the Virginia Dept. of Health. Registration required.
