At least 30,000 chemicals are used in farming andmanufacturing worldwide. Keeping up with the volume and complexity of these agents and the health effects on those who work with them is a full-time occupation--the work of the Medical Toxicologist.

The Medical Toxicologists at the University of Virginia Occupational & Environmental Toxicology Service provide unbiased, expert opinions that enable clients to make cost-effective and timely decisions about possible occupational or environmental toxicologic illness or injury.

Services include:

  1. Independent Medical Evaluations

  2. 24 hour-a-day emergency inpatient and outpatient evaluation and care for patients suffering from illnesses related to exposure to chemicals such as pesticides, heavy metals and toxic gasses.

  3. Critical review and preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets.
