Biography: Born in Transylvania, attended Medical School Cluj-Napoca. Extern, Intern of the University Hospital, Research Fellow in Neurophysiology Academy of Science Cluj - Napoca. Neurosurgical education in Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, Berlin, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. PhD in Karolinska Institute. I was Head of the Neurosurgical Department in Stockholm, and Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology at the University of Virginia. I received the Sugita award 2001 of the International Socieat of Inventor Neurosurgeons. Lars Leksell Lecturer 2001 Stockholm. Member, Founding Member, Honorific member, corresponding member of numerous national and international neurosurgical societies. Author of articles, book chapters, books on experimental and clinical topics on gliomas, meningiomas, vestibular schwannomas, pituitary tumors, cerebro-vascular malformations; developed new neurosurgical tools. Frequent invited speaker in five continents. While during my career I have been mostly interested in microsurgery of the intracranial lesions; at present I dedicate my activity to Gamma surgery, a field which I pioneered.
