Protein Sciences

The Biomolecular Research Facility offers a range of analytical services listed below to study proteins and peptides. A summary of the work of the core is in an October 2007 poster as a Power Point or pdf file.

Chromatography by HPLC of proteins and peptides and other molecules

Amino acid analysis to determine composition  and concentration of peptides

Gel scanning for visible and fluorescent stains

Fluorescent plate reader for reading fluorescent reagents in 96 well plates

Circular dichroism for study of secondary structure of proteins.

Equipment outside of major services which may be useful in analyzing proteins.

Digestion and alkylation of proteins

The Biomolecular Research Facility has discontinued N-terminal sequencing using Edman chemistry;searches at http://www.abrf.org/index.cfm/dir.yp and elsewhere on the web will find other facilities which perform this analysis.

Protocols

Methanol chloroform precipitation of proteins. This technique has been used to concentrate and desalt proteins.
