Financial Info

All biomedical sciences graduate students are assured support for all years of doctoral study and research, contingent on satisfactory progress in the program. Such support is based on a twelve month award that includes an annual stipend ($24,000 for 2007-2008, increasing to $25,000 for 2008-2009); set each year by the BIMS Program Directors and the Associate Dean for Research), full payment of tuition and fees and a health insurance subsidy. The stipend is paid in the form of a fellowship, traineeship, teaching assistantship, research assistantship or a combination of these. The stipend payments are made either monthly or bi-weekly, depending on the type of support.

Beginning in the summer after the first year, if a student is not supported by a training grant or external fellowship, she/he is generally supported as a research assistant with funds derived from the research grants of her/his mentor. In the case where a student holds a fellowship or traineeship that provides partial payment of the stipend and/or tuition and fees, the remainder will be paid from research grants, teaching funds, or institutional funds as appropriate.

Support for students in the sixth year and beyond is dependent on the availability of research funds from the mentor or of institutional funds.

TRAINING GRANTS
Eligible current students are typically nominated for one or more training grants during the spring semester of Year-1 (only one may be awarded). A few of the training grant positions are offered to applicants. Specific information for each training grant is located on the web:
