All students receive:
-
living stipend, which increases yearly* (currently $22,440)
-
full tuition and fees
-
complete health and dental insurance, including eye care
-
a yearly allotment for travel to scientific meetings or courses
Financial support comes from University fellowships, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Training Grants, NIH mentor grants, grants from foundations and industry, and a Pratt Endowment Fund.
Special note to international applicants: Financial aid for students who are neither U.S. citizens nor U.S. permanent residents is very limited. Although approximately 19% of each entering class is international, on average, we are able to admit less than 5% of our non-U.S. applicant pool. Please take this into consideration before applying to the Program.
* Students who win competitive awards such as NSF predoctoral fellowships or Special UVA Merit Fellowships receive a $2000 stipend bonus (for a maximum stipend of $24,000 in 2004-2005).
