Regional Anesthesia Rotation

The Regional Anesthesia rotation consists of a four week block dedicated solely to regional anesthesia training beginning during the CA-2 year. During the CA3 year, residents may do an additional 4 weeks of regional anesthesia as part of their elective schedule. Each block is divided equally between our main operating room and our ambulatory surgical facility.

During the rotation residents are exposed to a wide variety of regional procedures for upper and lower extremity nerve blocks using single injection and continuous catheter techniques. The goal of our department is to provide every resident with the opportunity to acquire a solid background in the procedural and scientific underpinnings of regional anesthesia so that they can continue to build upon this foundation as they progress in their careers as consultants in regional anesthesia. During the CA3 year, residents will have an opportunity to participate in a regional anesthesia oriented cadaver dissection under the direction Mike Iwanik, PhD. and Ashley Shilling, MD. Each resident will spend a major portion of their time during the rotation working with the core regional faculty listed below:

Paul Ting, MD
Heidi Henson, MD
Ashley Shilling, MD
John Rowlingson, MD
John Antonakakis, MD
Lee White, MD
