It is our pleasure to welcome you to UVa Anesthesiology! We are committed to providing residents with the environment and mentorship which will foster the development of outstanding clinicians, researchers and future leaders in medicine.
The University of Virginia only accepts residency applications through ERAS. Once we have received your complete application, we will consider all information provided in our review process. For international medical graduates, we require that you graduated from a medical school within the past five years, have at least two months of clinical experience in the United States with evaluations from each experience, and must hold a current ECFMG certification. We sponsor only J-1 visas.
All applications must include the following items:
3 Letters of recommendation including one from an anesthesiologist with whom you have worked. Updated Curriculum Vitae, Medical School Transcript, USMLE Scores (applicants must pass the USMLE exams on the first attempt and have an average of 220 or more), Dean's letter (transmitted November 1st from your medical school), Personal statement explaining your reasons for choosing anesthesia as a specialty.
When completed, your application will be carefully reviewed; selected applicants will be invited for an interview. Formal interview days take place from late November through early January on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Applicants will be provided a continental breakfast, lunch and the opportunity to speak informally with residents who are currently in our program at dinner on Tuesday evenings in the home of one of our residents. The deadline for submitting your application through ERAS to our program is December 1st.
We look forward to reviewing your residency application. Please e-mail me if you need additional information relating to the residency program. Our program is indexed on the AMA's Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database (FREIDA).
