RESIDENT APPLICANTS

photoIt is our pleasure to welcome you to UVa Anesthesiology!  We are committed to providing residents with the environment and mentorship which will foster the development of outstanding clinicians, researchers and future leaders in medicine. 

The University of Virginia only accepts residency applications through ERAS. Once we have received your complete application, we will consider all information provided in our review process. For international medical graduates, we require that you graduated from a medical school within the past five years, have at least two months of clinical experience in the United States with evaluations from each experience, and must hold a current ECFMG certification. We sponsor only J-1 visas.

All applications must include the following items:

Letters of recommendation-3 or more letters of references including one from an anesthesiologist with whom you have worked.                  Curriculum Vitae
Transcript-your official transcript from your medical school
USMLE Scores -applicants must pass the USMLE on the first attempt  Dean's letter -transmitted November 1st from your medical school     Personal statement-a narrative statement which should include your reasons for choosing anesthesia as a specialty and provide us with a personal profile 

When completed, your application will be carefully reviewed and selected applicants will be invited for an interview. Formal interview days take place  from late November through January on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Applicants will be provided a continental breakfast, lunch and the opportunity to speak informally with residents who are currently in our program. There is also an opportunity to get together over dinner with the residents on Tuesday evening. The deadline for submitting your application through ERAS to our program is December 1st.

FACULTY APPLICANTS

photoUNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA: To meet increasing clinical demand, the Department of Anesthesiology is seeking faculty candidates with diverse interests and expertise and a commitment to a career in academic medicine.  All ranks are available, but we are particularly interested in new resident graduates with an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. (BC/BE), who are interested in combining clinical practice with resident education and/or research. In addition to generalists, we are seeking faculty interested in regional anesthesia, pain management, critical care, cardiac, pediatric, and neuro-anesthesiology.
