Teaching Portfolio

The Academy of Distinguished Educators encourages faculty to use a teaching portfolio to document teaching excellence. This portfolio can be used in the application for membership to the Academy; further details are available on our Membership Page. The following template provides an outline for the portfolio:

An example of the Reflective Statement portion of the portfolio can be found on the web site of the Teaching Resource Center, in this Faculty Essay by Craig Barton.

Further guidance on the preparation of a strong Teaching Portfolio is offered regularly through the Faculty Leadership Programs, in a workshop entitled "Preparing Teaching Portfolios for Evaluation and Promotion." Dates & details for this and other offerings are available on the Faculty Leadership Programs Calendar. Teaching materials for this, and other 2005-2006 FLP sessions are available on the FLP Materials page.

The Teaching Portfolio template is a product of the ADE Teaching Subcommittee, as part of the ADE mission to develop excellence, innovation, and scholarship in education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Please visit our Steering & Committees page for additional information.
