Internationally acclaimed addictions expert Professor Bankole Johnson and colleagues created the UVa Excelsior Program for the Treatment of Alcohol or Drug Abuse in 2006 to provide evidence-based, multi-modal treatment for addictive disorders and related difficulties. As such, it is the first program of its kind to offer comprehensive and uniquely adaptive pharmacological and psychological treatment. Professor Johnson is Chairman of UVa’s Department of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences and has nearly two decades of experience in performing clinical and laboratory studies that have contributed significantly to the development of medications for treating addictions. His research has appeared in over 200 publications, and he is the recipient of numerous honors and awards.
