Arthur Garson, Jr. MD

Arthur Garson, Jr. MD, MPH is the James Carroll Flippin Professor in Medical Science, Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President of the University of Virginia.  As dean, he is responsible for all operations of the medical school, including the LCME accreditation process.  A pediatric cardiologist and health policy expert, Dr. Garson was formerly on the faculty at Baylor University and Duke University before coming to UVa in 2002.  He has served as president of the American College of Cardiology and serves on several national committees and task forces.

Gregory F. Hayden , MD is director of the LCME Self Study Task Force.  He is professor of Pediatrics and has been a faculty member at UVa since 1979.  He is a member of the Admissions Committee, a small-group mentor for first-year students in the Practice of Medicine-1 course, and a faculty member in the Generalist Scholar Program.  He was director of the Center for the Advancement of Generalist Medicine from 2000 to 2005 .  He has been the School's LCME Faculty Fellow since 2003 and was a member of an LCME site-visit team in 2004.

Addeane S. Caelleigh is the LCME Self Study coordinator and came to the School of Medicine specifically to work on this project.  She was formerly editor-in-chief of the journal Academic Medicine (published by the Association of American Medical Colleges) which publishes on issues related to accreditation.  She has written broadly on issues related to medical education, and has been on academic faculties and in academic research and publishing for the past 30 years.
