The Diabetes & Endocrine Research Center Cell & Islet Isolation Core (CIIC) is a centralized facility that provides specialized support for pancreatic islet and other cellular component research for the UVA Diabetes Center investigators and UVA diabetes research community. This facility is fully supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and directed by Dr. Craig Nunemaker.
The CIIC provides support to help researchers advance their diabetes and pancreatic islet/beta cell studies. The services include isolation of pancreatic islets from experimental animals, assessment of pancreatic beta-cell function, providing investigators with beta cell lines, and collaboration in studies of islet transplantation models. The CIIC also supports research collaborations within the UVA diabetes research community to develop new research projects.
Dr. Craig Nunemaker directs the CIIC staff and oversees operations. Jeff Carter provides experienced and specialized technical assistance.
