Dr. D'Alessio is director of the Division of Endocrinology at Duke University and a physician-scientist. He is a translational investigator with 25 years of experience in human and animal research related to metabolism, obesity and diabetes. His research focuses on regulation of insulin secretion by GI hormones, particularly GLP-1, and the role of incretins in ß-cell function in type 2 diabetes. In recent years, it has expanded to include humans with bariatric surgery, because these individuals have accentuated GLP-1 responses. His lab is funded through an on-going R01 award, a Merit Award from the V.A., and industry and institutional sources.
