The focus of the work that will be presented links oxidant-induced PTEN and caveolin-1 degradation, eNOS hyperactivation, and defective Notch signaling to endothelial cell dedifferentiation, unproductive angiogenesis, and vascular perfusion defects. Patient-derived tissue sections and cultured endothelial cells together with knockout mouse studies suggest caveolin-1 is an important regulator of endothelial cell-fate determination.
