    New Admissions Standard Work for Bedside Nurses

     

    Step 1: Admitting RN asks if patient is in one of these categories:

    • Organ transplant recipient
    • Active organ transplant candidate
    • Stem cell transplant recipient
    • Has leukemia, lymphoma or other blood cancers
    • Have received chemotherapy in the last month
    • Receiving treatment for HIV/AIDS

     

    Step 2: Admitting RN goes to “Manage Orders” in Epic

    • Enters “Protective Isolation” order
    • Use “Water Precautions” as reason/comment

     

    Step 3: Ensure:

    • Protective isolation sign on door (attached)
    • For unfiltered sinks: Provide bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth
    • For unfiltered showers: Provide Sani wipes and Body Baths for hygiene
    • Do not provide ice from unfiltered ice machines

     

    Step 4: Notify shift manager that immunocompromised patient has been admitted

    Step 5: Shift manager confirms protective isolation order is placed in Epic
