    ANORECTAL BIOFEEDBACK

WHY DO I NEED THIS APPOINTMENT?

Biofeedback is a therapy that uses sensors that are attached to your body. These sensors will show how you are using specific groups of muscles. You will be given an explanation on how to manage these muscles more effectively to help with proper straining during bowel movements, or to learn how to strengthen and tone your muscles to help prevent leakage or accidents.

    HOW DO I GET READY?

    • You may have a light breakfast, and if you have an afternoon appointment you can have a small snack mid-day. There are no restrictions for drinking and you can take all of your medications.
    • You will need to use 1-2 Fleets enemas or a Fleets rectal suppository about 2-3 hours before your appointment.
    • The sessions will take 90 minutes and you should plan to come for 5 visits, about 3-4 weeks apart or as advised by your Nurse. You may wish to schedule all your appointments at your first visit for your convenience or you can schedule them with each visit.
    • Come to 500 Monroe Lane UVA Endoscopy 15 minutes before your appointment time. Free parking is provided in front of the building.

    • Bring a list of your current medications and allergies with you
