Add-Mix Eclipse Antibiotic

• Wash hands, clean work area and gather supplies
• 10cc syringe with needle, the vial of fluid for reconstitution, eclipse ball, alcohol prep pads, and 2 pre-filled saline syringes. Prepare two saline syringes (push air out)
• Draw up 10cc of fluid from vial of fluid
• After cleansing the Medication bottle cap inject the 10cc of fluid into the medication bottle
• Mix antibiotics by gently rolling between hands until medication is dissolved
• After cleansing medication bottle cap with alcohol prep pad withdraw medication from bottle using 10cc syringe. Remove needle from end of syringe and dispose of properly
• Remove cap from end of eclipse ball and inject the medication into the ball
• Gently shake the ball a couple of times to mix the medication in the ball
• Flush port with saline
• Connect tubing on eclipse ball to PICC port, unclamp both clamps and infuse medication
• When complete, clamp PICC port, clamp tubing and disconnect
• Wipe port with alcohol pad
• Flush vigorously with the 10 cc Saline syringe using the “push-pause method,” clamp PICC port and remove syringe
• KEEP ON SCHEDULE!

SAS method:

Saline – Antibiotic – Saline

Change PICC dressing once a week or if it becomes wet or soiled, every 48 hours if gauze is used.
