policy 0193 : Electronic Mail (E-mail)

Electronic mail (e-mail), when used properly, can be an effective tool for communication of business information. It is not advisable to use e-mail for confidential information or when there would be concern if the e-mail were forwarded to other parties, or all or some portion were to be copied and sent to other parties. Confidential information includes, but is not limited to, protected health information, employees information, and financial information. Email or other forms of electronic communication containing PHI must be agreed to by the patient or communicated using a platform/method approved by the Medical Center, see Medical Center Policy No. 0021 “Confidentiality of Patient Information.”
