policy 0294 : The Aging Practitioner

The University of Virginia Clinical Staff is obligated to assess the capacity of practitioners to perform requested privileges. Clinical privileges for Practitioners who are 69 years of age will be scheduled to expire during the year they reach the age of 70, at which time the Practitioner must complete an examination to assess the Practitioner’s physical and mental capacity for requested privileges. At the age of 75, such examinations shall occur every two years. This policy establishes a procedure for assessing the impact of aging on that capacity. Members of the Clinical Staff, Non-members who hold clinical privileges, and Allied Health Providers are referred to collectively as “Practitioners” in this policy.
