policy 0050 : Patient Visitation

The University of Virginia Medical Center recognizes visits from family, friends, and others (collectively referred to as “Visitors”) is important to patients and supports positive patient outcomes. The Medical Center does not restrict, limit or otherwise deny visitation privileges or Care Partner designations on the basis of race, age, color, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or gender expression. Visitors and Care Partners may be present to provide emotional support during the course of stay, unless the health care team determines the presence of Visitors and/or Care Partners is medically or therapeutically contraindicated or infringes upon the patient’s rights and/or safety, or the rights and/or safety of others.
