policy : EFM Certification Requirements for Women's Place Staff and Providers
Personnel affected by this policy include physicians, physicians in training, midwives, nurse practitioners and registered nurses who provide care to antepartum and intrapartum patients in Labor and Delivery, the Mother-Baby Unit, and ambulatory clinics of the University of Virginia Medical Center, in practices of the University of Virginia Physicians Group, or elsewhere in the UVa Health System. These individuals must obtain national certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (“EFM”) by passing the examination offered by either the National Certification Corporation (“NCC”) or the Perinatal Quality Foundation (“PQF”). The nursing staff and nurse practitioners must maintain certification as specified by the NCC for the duration of their subsequent employment at the University of Virginia Medical center and / or role in providing care to pregnant patients. Attending physicians, fellow physicians, resident physicians, and certified nurse midwives shall obtain and maintain EFM certification as outlined further in sections D1 and D2.
