    Usage:

    • Neonatal ECMO has been in use for over 3 decades.
    • Most common disease processes utilized for ECMO:
      • Pulmonary hypertension related to sepsis
      • MAS
      • pneumonia
      • CDH, or idiopathic PPHN
      • With the advent of iNO, many patients with PPHN have evaded ECMO.  

    Acute and reversible pathology.  RDS, MAS, PPHN, CDH, sepsis, pneumonia.  Life support before/after cardiac surgery.  

     

    Patient Criteria:

    • > 34 weeks GA
    • BW > 2 kg
    • Reversible lung disease
    • Coagulopathy should be corrected prior to initiation.
    • IVH < grade 2
    • No lethal anomalies or brain injuries.
    • Decision to provide full support
