Usage:
- Neonatal ECMO has been in use for over 3 decades.
- Most common disease processes utilized for ECMO:
- Pulmonary hypertension related to sepsis
- MAS
- pneumonia
- CDH, or idiopathic PPHN
- With the advent of iNO, many patients with PPHN have evaded ECMO.
Acute and reversible pathology. RDS, MAS, PPHN, CDH, sepsis, pneumonia. Life support before/after cardiac surgery.
Patient Criteria:
- > 34 weeks GA
- BW > 2 kg
- Reversible lung disease
- Coagulopathy should be corrected prior to initiation.
- IVH < grade 2
- No lethal anomalies or brain injuries.
- Decision to provide full support
