guideline 2.266 : VTE Prophylaxis - Elective Hip & Knee Arthroplasty

The purpose of this document is to outline the approach to prevention of venous thromboembolic disease among patients undergoing elective hip and knee arthroplasty. Arthroplasty is a major surgical procedure, and research shows that there is a risk of developing either deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism after surgery. The goal of prophylaxis is prevention of mortality and other serious complications resulting from venous thromboembolic (VTE) disease.
