guideline 2.045 : Burn & Wound Guideline

The purpose of this Burn/Wound Clinical Practice Guideline is to provide safe and effective analgesia during wound/dressing care at the bedside and/or in the hydrotherapy area (tank room). The goal is to provide safe analgesia and minimization of unintended sedation during treatment. Analgesia and anxiolysis are used alone or in combination to facilitate the performance of medical or surgical procedures while providing anxiolysis, mild amnesia and/or pain relief for patient comfort. The level of patient unintended sedation is defined by the patient’s psychological and physiologic state and ability to maintain airway and spontaneous ventilation and not on the route, dose or specific drug(s) used.
