Breast Health
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer.
The University of Virginia's Breast Care Team provides a full range of services for breast health and offers special expertise in diagnosing and treating breast cancer. UVa is ranked as one of the top cancer centers in the country by U.S. News & World Report and is one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated Clinical Cancer Centers in Virginia. In addition UVa has an active clinical trials program, with many clinical trials based on the work of UVa researchers and physicians. UVa also participates in national clinical trials and studies with other leading institutions across the country.
As part of a dedicated team of breast specialists, UVa's breast radiologists and breast surgeons that only treat one condition: breast conditions. There is no other comprehensive facility in the region with this combination of services for rapid testing, accurate diagnosis and timely treatment, including:
- Advanced breast imaging, including digital mammography
- Fine needle aspiration and image-guided core biopsy
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy
- Ductal lavage
