MICROBES AND MUCOSAL IMMUNITY - 2008

Jordan Hall, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA
June 25th - June 27th, 2008.

Organizing Committee:  Peter Ernst DVM, PhD, Sheila Crowe MD, FRCPC
 and Brian Reuter PhD

The Digestive Health Center at the University of Virginia and the Society for Mucosal Immunology (www.socmucimm.org) are hosting a comprehensive introductory course describing the impact of mucosal diseases on society and the current research techniques that are used to address these problems.  The goal of this NIH-sponsored course is to provide trainees with a background covering the challenges and technical approaches relevant to mucosal immunity that will help them plan their training agenda and professional development. This course is directed towards undergraduates in science, mathematics, biomedical engineering and medicine; graduate students; medical residents; and post-doctoral research/clinical fellows.  Lectures and discussions will be led by an international cadre of scientists who have achieved successful careers in academics or industry related to mucosal health.  The format will include overview lectures and state-of-the-art research presentations that consist of a thorough introduction to the field and the novel technical approaches used to investigate the research questions.

Fees:  Registration fee of $100 for trainees, $500 for others. This includes the course, some meals, refreshment breaks as well as registration materials. We will have 10 travel scholarships for trainees in the field of GI research and several travel reimbursements for trainees outside of the normal GI research field such as, but not limited to: mathematics, bioinformatics, chemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering and veterinary medicine.  For more information on the program, registration and travel awards, visit:  http://www.uva-mmi.org/.  Attendees from out of town will book rooms at the Cavalier Inn for themselves.  Please visit http://www.cavalierinn.com/.  Please mention that you are in the MMI 2008 block of rooms.  We hope to subsidize these rates based on the assumption that the rooms are shared with two trainees.
