Working to Stop a Killer
Did you know that colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States? Tragically, it is also one of the few cancers that is almost entirely curable if caught early.
UVa Health System is doing important work in screening for and treating this deadly disease. As a Top 100 hospital and a regional academic medical center, physicians in different disciplines of gastroenterology, cancer and radiology are developing collaborative and innovative ways of finding and treating the disease.
The Digestive Health Center of Excellence has been rated as one of the top digestive disease centers in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Working collaboratively with UVa's Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute Clinical Cancer Center, the Digestive Health Center of Excellence is the regional leader in screenings for colon cancer.
