What every medical student should know

Airway assessment and management is one of the most fundamental skill sets learned by medical students and residents: it should be within the realm of every physician. Loss or alteration of consciousness, whether due to anesthesia, medications, trauma or disease often times necessitates endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.  Deoxygenation, secondary to loss of airway or inadequate ventilation can render a patient permanently brain damaged or deceased in as quickly as four to six minutes.  This web-site is intended to provide basic information, in the form of text, pictures,diagrams, and videos, on airway anatomy, respiratory physiology, and airway management: information every medical student should know.  This web-site is not a comprehensive review, rather an introductory overview of key concepts.
